Saturday Smiles -Watch Out for that Wrecking Ball!

Watch Out for that Wrecking Ball!

Put on your imagination cap with me for a moment and picture yourself as the driver of a wrecking truck.  You know, one of those giant trucks with a huge wrecking ball that’s designed to crash through and destroy the toughest of tough structures.

Now, hop in the truck and start driving down the road with your music blaring loud in your ear.  (In this case, lets say it’s heavy or depressing music.)  One problem… Before leaving, you forgot to secure the wrecking ball!  As you drive down the street, the crane holding the wrecking ball begins to shift and sway.  Then… You round a corner and… ***CRASH!***  The wrecking ball just left a nice little hole in the corner market.  Oblivious to what just happened because of the blaring music, you continue to drive.  Everywhere you go, the wrecking ball you carry continues to wreak havoc.  You have created a mess and yet you are still unaware.

        Now, transform that dastardly wrecking ball in your imagination into a dastardly attitude that you carry in real life. So often, it can be so easy to carry a disastrous attitude around and not even realize just how much of an effect it really is having on the people around you.  Your music, or rather, the selfish, self-pity, or angry thoughts that fill your head, can often cause you to be unaware of just how much damage your attitude is causing.  Family gets hit the worst, but even total strangers often get slapped in the face by unsecured wrecking balls.  Cashiers and receptionists are some of the biggest targets.  You yourself are not the wrecking ball, it is only something that you may carry.

Everyone has this problem at times, but it is more destructive them most realize. Ask the Lord to help you deal with the problems you are facing.  Work hard to rid yourself of your pride, selfishness, self-pity, anger, and destructive attitude… And then… Imagine yourself as an ice cream truck that gives out free ice cream.  (And don’t forget to smile)

In need of a reason to smile?

Psalm 103:1-4
"Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies."

Now that is something to smile about. :)
